What is Motor Neuron Disease (MND)

Motor Neuron Disease (MND) is a rapidly progressing, neurological disease in which the nerve cells (motor neurons) that communicate between brain and muscles via spinal cord become damaged and start to die. MND also called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Lou Gehrig’s disease.

What causes Motor Neuron Disease

Motor Neuron Disease is a rare group of acquired or inherited disorders. In many cases it is very severe and life threatening. Still the reason is unknown but few researchers say that this disease caused in a combination of environmental, life style, premature mediated damage of motor neurons and genetic factors.

Symptoms of Motor Neuron Disease

  • difficulty holding objects due to weakness of the hand muscles
  • stumbling due to weakness of the leg muscles
  • slurred speech or swallowing difficulties 
  • a general feeling of tiredness
  • muscle pains and cramps
  • muscle twitches
  • laughing in inappropriate situations
